LEGACY SOCIETY BENEFICIARY

The Las Patronas Legacy Society was established to honor and thank supporters who have included the Las Patronas Directed Endowment in their charitable bequests and estate plans or who have made a direct donation of $10,000 or more to the endowment. All Legacy Society members are recognized at Las Patronas events and in our publications.

Our Legacy Society is proud to support this year’s recipients – MANA de San Diego and Voices for Children.

MANA de San Diego transforms communities by empowering Latinas to achieve upward mobility and a better quality of life. They begin by providing their young Latina students, or Hermanitas, with an exclusive one-to-one mentor. MANA continues to support them past the Hermanitas program by providing these young women with micro scholarships to aid in their pursuit of higher education. Finally, they continue the Latina journey to leadership through the Leadership Program and the Latina Success Conference, which helps Latinas achieve more in the workforce.

New electronic and storage equipment will allow MANA de San Diego to carry out their monthly seminars for their Hermanitas Program, networking and educational events for members and the broader community, and their new STEAM Pi Day event, which will provide free engaging and educational activities in STEAM for more than 300 low-income youth annually.

Voices for Children recruits, trains, and supports Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers who speak up for the needs and well-being of children in foster care. The role of a CASA is to serve as the child’s advocate and problem-solver while being a consistent presence in their life. While attorneys and social workers have large caseloads, a CASA focuses on one child or sibling group at a time. Their mission is to transform the lives of these abused, abandoned, or neglected children. This year, an estimated 3,500 children will spend time in foster care in San Diego County.

New, much-needed videoconferencing equipment will empower Voices for Children staff and their CASAs to resolve challenges that arise in a child’s life more efficiently, setting each child up for success.
